This seminar is taken place at Maumaus - School of Visual Arts. Maumaus was founded in 1992 in Lisbon, Portugal, and focuses on the teaching and production of contemporary art.

Image picked by Alessandro after class discussion today:
"This image has been taken in Dakar during the performance of David Hammons at the Biennale of Contemporary African Art in 2004. For this performance he organized a lottery in a popular area of Dakar offering prices for the winning ticket. It was, as Manthia Diawara has underlined, a way to question the status of contemporary art and its relation with local audience. if the pavilions of the official exhibition suffered a permanent lack of public, Hammons' performance was a popular success. For me it's particularly interesting because it makes an important satnding point in the debate about the status of contemporary art in Africa and its relation with the audience, as well as the relationship between Africa and artists from the Diaspora."
